Ligue 2 promotion challengers Bordeaux have this week announced the signing of Spanish attacking midfielder Pedro Díaz from Sporting Gijón, with the 25-year-old joining on a four-year contract.
According to France Bleu among other outlets, Les Girondins have paid €2.2m for the Spaniard, but the deal will also see 49% of his future transfer fee go back to his formative club. The French side’s share of the player’s rights could increase to 81%, with the deal going up to €3.5m, if several performance-related bonuses are triggered.
Díaz will have made 155 appearances in all competitions for the Asturians since breaking into the first team during the 2019/20 season. He becomes Bordeaux’s sixth signing of the summer – the club has recruited in all of the positions that were targeted, in stark contrast to last season’s financial turmoil. They will look to return to Ligue 1 at the second time of asking after narrowly missing out last year.
