Borussia Mönchengladbach have announced that they have extended the contract of striker Tim Kleindienst.

Kleindienst’s original deal was set to expire in 2028, following his 2024 move from Heidenheim for €7m. The extension is valid for one year and takes the 30-year-old’s new contract until 2029.

On extending his deal, Kleindienst said:

“I feel really comfortable at Borussia. It’s simply a great club. And I’m also convinced by this team. I would like to help lead the club back to the top.”

While sporting director Rouven Schröder added:

“Tim quickly became a leader and national team player in his first year with us, and this season he’s also become captain of the team. We are very pleased with his development and his performances. He’s someone who leads by example on the pitch, and we’re looking forward to him being available to the team again after his injury.”

The striker is one of Gladbach’s most important players and, following a meniscus injury picked up in May, die Fohlen have struggled to replace him. However, in recent weeks, Haris Tabakovic has begun to pick up the mantle, while Shuto Machino is still settling

Last season, Kleindienst was Gladbach’s top scorer with 16 goals and nine assists in 31 Bundesliga games; his contributions made up 45% of die Fohlen’s Bundesliga goals last season.

Gladbach’s talisman returns from injury:

Kleindienst has completed his rehab following his knee injury, and this week he returned to the pitch and completed individual exercises with the ball.

It is possible that the 30-year-old could return before the end of the month.
