Montpellier have tonight announced the signing of central defender Boubakar Kouyaté from Ligue 2 outfit Metz, on a deal which L’Équipe have reported to be worth €6m.
The Malian international has signed a deal that keeps him at the Hérault side for three and a half years. The 25-year-old leaves the Lorraine side having made 74 appearances across three campaigns, having scored twice over the course of his previous two seasons in the top flight. He had previously turned out for Sporting Club’s reverse side before a spell at Troyes, and began his senior career in Morocco.
Kouyaté has become MHSC’s first signing of the winter, with goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte expected to arrive on loan from Monaco to replace the departing Jonas Omlin, in a merry-go-round of goalkeepers initiated by the season-ending injury suffered by Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer. Defender Arnaud Souquet has left for MLS outfit Chicago Fire.
