Ajax have this afternoon announced the return of midfielder Branco van den Boomen, who will join on a free transfer from Ligue 1 side Toulouse at the end of the campaign.
The Dutchman, who was named in Get French Football News’ Ligue 1 Team of the Year, has played a key part in the Occitans comfortably finishing in mid-table and lifting the Coupe de France title with a devastating win over Nantes in the final.
Having broken onto the scene in Les Violets’ Ligue 2 campaign last year (12 goals, 21 assists), the 27-year-old has turned in another impressive season, managing five goals and eight assists. Highlights will include a free-kick scored against Paris Saint-Germain, among the 19 G/A that place him among the very best on the continent in terms of goal contributions.
Van den Boomen has signed a four-year contract with Ajax, who finished in a disappointing third place this past season. He had previously played for the club’s youth teams before moving on the FC Eindhoven in 2014.
