Manchester United have announced that Casemiro will leave the club at the end of the season, upon the expiry of his contract.
Having joined United in August 2022 from Real Madrid, Casemiro has so far made 146 appearances for the club, contributing 21 goals in that period. He helped the club win the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup a year later.
There had been uncertainty over his future, which kicked off soon after he entered the final year of his contract. There were suggestions that United were open to extending his terms, although on significantly reduced terms.
A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Casemiro could trigger an option to extend his stay at Old Trafford by an additional 12 months by starting a certain number of games this season.
However, it has now been confirmed that he will leave once the campaign comes to a close.
Casemiro said in a statement, “I will carry Manchester United with me throughout my entire life.”
“From the first day that I walked out at this beautiful stadium, I felt the passion of Old Trafford and the love that I now share with our supporters for this special club.”
“It is not time to say goodbye; there are many more memories to create during the next four months.”
“We still have a lot to fight for together; my complete focus will, as always, remain on giving my everything to help our club to succeed.”
The five-time Champions League winner has also taken to Instagram and posted an emotional farewell video of himself, featuring scenes of some of his greatest moments for the club.
He wrote, ” Knowing when stages come to an end. Knowing when to say goodbye when you feel that you will be remembered and respected forever.”
“Four months to give my all for this badge and for our goal. Eternal respect and affection for Manchester United and its wonderful fans.”
“Forever Red Devil.”
The first stop on Casemiro’s farewell tour is a daunting one – a trip to the Emirates this Sunday to face Premier League leaders Arsenal.
