It’s been a slow January for Chelsea fans hoping for big transfers – although don’t say we didn’t warn you it would be like this.
The Blues haven’t signed anyone for their first team, although they have just announced one addition. Mamadou Sarr, signed in the summer from sister club Strasbourg then loaned back, has had his loan cut short, and will now join up with Liam Rosenior’s group.
This feels like a direct response to the club’s failure to sign top defensive target Jeremy Jacquet, who will join Liverpool.

The return of Sarr raises some interesting questions. Levi Colwill is our top option, and will be back fit by the end of the season. Wesley Fofana is another first choice player, but is only capable of playing one a week thanks to his injury history.
Trevoh Chalobah has proved a solid and dependable backup for both. Then Benoit Badiashile and Tosin come in as rotation options. Where will Sarr fit into this?
Most fans would have their priorities pretty clear. Badiashile and Tosin can go, and Sarr could fit as part of the second string pair alongside Chalobah.
And what of young Josh Acheampong? Is he really going to be buried on the depth chart? In that case, why not loan him out?
Tomorrow’s game against Arsenal has a lot of uncertainty around the lineups, and the fact that Liam Rosenior had to take his press conference early didn’t help that. You can read his comments about Estevao and Jamie Gittens in the post here.
Chelsea have not done much business this window, but are lining up an outgoing move for David Datro Fofana, who could join out sister club Strasbourg in Ligue 1 after they lost their striker Emmanuel Emegha to another injury.
