German head coach Dino Toppmöller has officially succeeded Pierre Sage as RC Lens manager, on the back of the Frenchman’s move to Crystal Palace. Toppmöller has signed a two-year deal with the Artois side. Sage led Lens to a second-place finish in Ligue 1 and to their maiden Coupe de France title, however, he sowed seeds of doubt regarding his future.
Crystal Palace, in the market for a new manager following the exit of Oliver Glasner, swooped in. The Eagles announced Sage’s arrival on Monday. Meanwhile, Lens scoured the market for his replacement, and they quickly agreed a deal with Toppmöller who, like Sage, is used to play with a back three. The 45-year-old notably overseen Eintracht Frankfurt’s third-place in the Bundesliga during the 2024-2025 season.
“We are delighted to announce the appointment of Dino Toppmöller, a highly regarded figure in Europe who combines tactical expertise, experience in European competitions, and outstanding personal qualities”, said RC Lens CEO Benjamin Parrot. “RC Lens and Dino represent the meeting of two rising stars, two challengers who share a common language: intensity.”
