Atalanta midfielder Ederson has been called up to replace injured Roma right-back Wesley in Brazil’s 2026 World Cup squad, the Brazilian FA confirmed.

Wesley was ruled out after suffering an injury during Saturday’s friendly against Egypt. An MRI revealed an adductor muscle problem in his left thigh.

Ederson, who is on the verge of joining Manchester United for €45m, is due to link up with the squad in the United States on Monday.

Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil are in Group C with Morocco, Haiti and Scotland. They open on June 14 against Morocco, face Haiti on June 20, then finish the group against Scott McTominay’s Scotland on June 25.

Wesley scored five goals and supplied two assists in 39 appearances for Roma in 2025-26. He remains a valued member of the group, which is seeking a sixth World Cup title.
