Fiorentina have officially announced the signing of veteran centre-forward Edin Dzeko, who returns for a third stint in Serie A at the age of 39 after a two-year spell away with Fenerbahce.

The former Wolfsburg, Manchester City, Roma and Inter striker has joined La Viola on a free transfer after the expiry of his two-year deal in Istanbul, and has put pen to paper on a one-year contract with an option for an additional 12 months, which could see him through until the age of 41.

The experienced centre-forward, who has 141 caps and 68 international goals with Bosnia and Herzegovina to his name, is coming in off the back of a season in which he scored 21 goals and provided eight assists last term.

He also provided 25 goals and 10 assists from 46 appearances across all competitions during his first season with Fenerbahce in 2023-24.

Dzeko also has 107 Serie A goals and 50 assists in Italy’s top flight across his spells with Roma and Inter.

Only two players aged 39 or over appeared in Serie A last season: Former Como goalkeeper Pepe Reina, who has since announced his retirement, and Udinese back-up goalkeeper Daniele Padelli.

As things stand, Arnautovic is the oldest outfield player in Serie A.
