Former Chelsea FC centre-forward Demba Ba has officially succeeded Mathieu Bodmer as Le Havre Sporting Director, the Ligue 1 side has announced on Friday. Bodmer handed in his resignation after four years with Les Ciel et Marine due to tensions behind the scenes, and decisions reportedly made without him knowing about it. Bodmer joined Kylian Mbappé-owned Ligue 3 outfit Stade Malherbe de Caen, which are Le Havre’s rivals in Normandy.
To fill the void left by Bodmer, Le Havre identified Ba as his successor. After a long career which included spells with Hoffenheim, Newcastle and Chelsea, the former Senegal international tried his hand at management. He joined USL Dunkerque as an advisor, before being given the Sporting Director role. The club’s results and standing remarkably improved during Ba’s mandate.
Ba, who grew up in Le Havre, will be tasked to spearhead the sporting policy of France’s oldest football club alongside head coach Didier Digard, who recently extended his contract.
