The Senegalese defender leaves Lorient for a season with the Hornets in the Championship.
Formose Mendy / Watford
Formose Mendy has officially joined Watford FC on Monday, September 1, 2025. The Senegalese centre-back signs on a paid loan with the English Championship club. This deal includes a purchase option in favor of the Hornets.
His transfer was finalized in the final hours of the summer window, after several days of negotiations between the two clubs. Watford had made Mendy their top priority to bolster their defensive ranks. Valon Behrami, Watford’s assistant sporting director, confirmed that the player was the club’s number one target. The defender joins Kevin Keben, James Abankwah, Mattie Pollock, and Max Alleyne among the first team’s defensive options.
"Formose was our number one priority, so we are absolutely thrilled to have completed this deal. We have been tracking this player for some time, while many other clubs were also interested in him. He has all the qualities our technical department was looking for in a defender and will really strengthen and complement the defensive options available to the head coach," said Valon Behrami, assistant sporting director.
