Bundesliga outfit SC Freiburg have officially confirmed the rumored transfer of Japanese international Yuito Suzuki. The once-capped Samurai international arrives from Danish club Brøndby IF. Kicker reports the transfer fee lies between €7m and €8m. Following the signing of French attacker Cyriaque Irié yesterday, Freiburg’s have now spent close to €16m on new players in the young summer transfer window.
Freiburg prepare both for the Europa League next season and the increasingly likely departure of leading goalscorer Ritsu Doan. Suzuki himself scored 12 goals and contributed six assists for his Danish outfit this past season. The 23-year-old generally plays on the right, just like his Japanese compatriot.
“Yuito has that special combination of goal-scoring ability and the ability to set up his teammates,” SCF personnel boss Jochen Saier noted in a club statement. “With his speed, versatility, and good technique, he will enhance our attacking play.”
“We have been trying to sign Yuito for a long time and are delighted that it has now worked out,” Saier statement continued. “Like many players from other leagues, he will certainly have to get used to the increased intensity of Bundesliga games. However, this shouldn’t take too long for him.
“This is a strong traditional club with an excellent reputation,” the player himself added. “In talks with the club, those responsible showed me a clear path that very much suits my ideas and sporting goals. Such clarity played a major role in my decision to make the move.”
