A long-time key member of the midfield setup at La Liga outfit Getafe has put pen to paper on terms with Greek giants Panathinaikos.
The player in question? Nemanja Maksimović.
Serbian international Maksimović, for his part, has acted as a near ever-present in the engine room ranks of Getafe boss José Bordalás across the term to date.
In fact, the 29-year-old has featured from the off in all but one of the Azulones’ La Liga outings.
As much comes with Maksimović having continued to prove himself a consistent source of excellence, on his way to four goals, and several Man of the Match accolades, too.
Safe to say, then, that it came as a blow to all associated with Getafe when, last week, club president Ángel Torres confirmed that the Serb had come to the decision to move on in the summer.
Ahead of the expiration of his contract at the Estadio Coliseum in June, Maksimović informed his long-time employers of his intention to join a club closer to his home country.
And, as alluded to above, on Friday, precisely that has been confirmed.
As per a statement across the website and social media platforms of the aforementioned Panathinaikos, Maksimović has put pen to paper on a pre-contract agreement with the Greek Super League outfit, set to kick into gear in the summer:
‘Panathinaikos announces the acquisition of Nemanja Maksimovic! The Serbian midfielder signed a three-year contract and will join our team’s roster this summer, immediately after completing his duties with Getafe.’
