Hertha Berlin have made their first purchase of the summer having signed Filip Uremović from Rubin Kazan on a four-year contract until 2026.
The 25-year-old central defender was most recently on loan at English Championship side Sheffield United and was tied to Rubin Kazan until 2024.
However, Hertha were able to sign the Croatian international for free due to Kazan being relegated and Uremovic’s contract only being valid in the Russian first division.
Via a statement on the club’s website, Uremovic said he wants to “take the next step in my career in the capital, continue to improve and help the team – that’s why I’m here.”
Hertha’s sporting director Fredi Bobic explains: “With Filip Uremovic, we have a player who, despite his young age, has already gained a lot of experience in different leagues. In addition to his flexibility, we are impressed by his robustness in duels and his leadership on the pitch, which he recently demonstrated as captain of his former club.”
