Facundo Medina (24) has committed his future to RC Lens, amidst reported interest from clubs across Europe, by signing a contract extension with Les Sang et Or until 2028.
The future of the Argentine defender had come into question. L’Équipe reported in January that Medina was a summer transfer target for Paris Saint-Germain, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan and AC Milan, whilst Ligue 1 rivals AS Monaco had also been cited an as interested party. Having competed in his first-ever UEFA Champions League campaign with Lens this season, it was expected that he would move on this summer, but that now looks unlikely in light of the extension that he signed on Thursday.
In the official press release, announcing Medina’s extension, CEO Arnaud Pouille seemed to confirm that the news guaranteed the Argentinian centre-back’s presence at the Bollaert next season, stating that the player represented the “first signing for next season”.
Whilst it currently looks like an uphill task for Lens to secure Champions League football for next season, the club will nonetheless be confident of securing some form of European football, with Franck Haise’s men currently fifth in Ligue 1.
