Holstein Kiel have appointed Tim Walter as their new head coach after parting ways with Marcel Rapp this afternoon, 24 February.

Walter's second stint as KSV coach, following the 2018-19 season, will commence on Wednesday at his first team training session.

Meanwhile, after four and a half successful years, Holstein Kiel decided it was right to call time on Marcel Rapp's reign.

Following lengthy internal discussions, this decision was made jointly and unanimously to bring fresh impetus to the coaching position.

Marcel Rapp took over as head coach from Ole Werner in October 2021 during a challenging period and steadily developed the team.

A particular milestone was the historic promotion to the Bundesliga in May 2024 – a success that will forever be linked to his name.

“I look back on my time at Holstein Kiel with great gratitude and equally great conviction," Rapp said, in an online statement.

"Over the past few years, we jointly developed a clear sporting identity, built structures, and made club history with our promotion to the Bundesliga.

"I respect the club's decision and will continue on my path with full energy. The experiences of the past few years – especially developing a team over several seasons – have further solidified my skills as a coach.

“Holstein Kiel will always remain a special club for me, and I wish the team every success for the remainder of the season and beyond,” he added.
