A sidelined member of the first-team ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid has this week been afforded a surprise call-up for international duty.
The player in question? David Alaba.
Stopper Alaba is for his part of course currently condemned to a fresh spell on the treatment table.
Amid an ongoing battle against his long-term fitness woes, the former Bayern Munich man suffered a setback late last month, by way of a calf injury.
As much was expected to keep Alaba on the sidelines until at least the far side of the November international break.
It has therefore come as a major surprise to see the 33-year-old included in the latest Austrian national team squad.
As confirmed on Wednesday, ahead of an upcoming pair of World Cup qualifying fixtures against Cyprus and Bosnia and Herzegovina, Alaba is the very first name on the list of those called upon by manager Ralf Rangnick.
