Bochum have announced the signing of Keven Schlotterbeck on loan from SC Freiburg for the rest of the season. The 25-year-old is the brother of Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck.

The arrival of Keven adds more depth at centre-back and gives him more playing time as he has only played twice for Freiburg this season making brief cameos against Bayer Leverkusen and Werder Bremen in the league. His only start came in a dead rubber game against Qarabag in the Europa League.

On the signing of Schlotterbeck, Bochum sporting director Patrick Fabian said: “With Keven Schlotterbeck, we’re strengthening our squad and expanding our options on the defensive by being more variable. Keven knows what’s coming for him and us and is ready to support us in the fight to stay up.”

Bochum currently sit 17th in the Bundesliga and are on their second head coach of the season with Thomas Letsch who joined from Vitesse Arnhem and replaced current Schalke manager Thomas Reis. They finished the year off with wins against Borussia Mönchengladbach and Augsburg.

VfL begin the second half of the season against Hertha Berlin on the 21st of January.
