Freiburg have announced that right-back Kiliann Sildillia has signed a contract extension at the club. The length of the new contract is unknown which is common practice for Freiburg.

On his contract extension, Sildillia said: “When I came from Metz to Freiburg, we had a common plan. This plan has worked out in every way. Now I want to continue to improve my game and work together with the boys at the highest possible level.”

Sporting director Klemens Hartenbach also spoke on the 20-year-old’s extension: “With quality, patience and humility, Kiliann has earned a permanent place in our team. It is nice to see that these attributes can always lead to our goal. His duel strength, his objectivity and his flexibility distinguish him in particular. Now we are working together to further sharpen his profile.”

Sildillia had attracted interest from Bayer Leverkusen as a potential replacement for Jeremie Frimpong who could potentially leave the club in the summer. The Frenchman is versatile and can also play as a right-sided centre-back which is another position Leverkusen needed options for.

This season, Sildillia has become a more important player for Freiburg as he has played 32 times for them across both right-back and centre-back. Freiburg are currently fourth in the Bundesliga and in the quarter-finals of the DFB Pokal where they play Bayern Munich on Tuesday, Freiburg had also reached the round of 16 in the Europa League but were knocked out against Juventus after the Italian side completely dominated both legs.
