1. FC Köln signed Jahmai Simpson-Pusey on a permanent transfer from Manchester City. The club communicated that the English center-back agreed on a contract until 2030. Simpson-Pusey has played eleven times in his loan spell in Germany.
“Jahmai has settled in very quickly since his move in the winter and immediately embraced the challenge at this level. His performances have shown the potential he possesses. His development is yet another example of how Köln offers a very good environment for young, talented players to take the next step in their careers.” said managing director Thomas Kessler.
“I’ve gotten a lot of playing time here and the club has placed a lot of trust in me. I’m grateful for that and that’s why I wanted to stay in Cologne. The playing time, the fans, the club – it all feels very good to me,” added Jahmai Simpson-Pusey in the official announcement.
Because of disciplinary measures, Simpson-Pusey was suspended by the club for the last home game against Heidenheim, but the 20-year-old played the entire game in the final matchday against Champions Bayern. Simpson-Pusey spent twelve years in Manchester City's famed academy before making six appearances for the first team.
After an unsuccessful loan spell at Celtic, the Premier League side found the best solution for everyone involved with the move to Köln. According to multiple reports, the fee was believed to be around €5 million, despite the initial buy option being €8 million.
