Laurent Bonadei has succeeded Hervé Renard as France Women’s manager, the French FA has announced. The 54-year-old was Renard’s first assistant coach since his appointment as the head of Les Bleues in March 2023. In his seventeen-month tenure, Renard reached the quarter-finals of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the final of the UEFA Nations League. Renard was appointed to lead France to their first Olympic medal for the 2024 Paris Games, but Les Bleues bowed out to eventual silver medallists Brazil in the quarter-finals.
The former Saudi Arabia national team manager made no mystery of his intent to leave his post on the back of the Olympics, with the coach keen on a return to the men’s game. This paved the way for Bonadei to be handed the hot seat in the France dugout and make his senior managerial debut. Bonadei has signed a three-year deal with the French FA with an option to extend for a further year.
