Lazio have officially announced that Christos Mandas has penned a new contract, thus pushing the expiry date to June 2029.
The 23-year-old first joined the Biancocelesti in the summer of 2023, arriving as a relative unknown from OFI Crete. Nevertheless, the young goalkeeper managed to prove his worth when given the opportunity to play between March and May last year while Ivan Provedel was nursing an injury. He even earned interest from Premier League clubs like Manchester City and Leicester.
This season, Marco Baroni has confirmed the Italian shot-stopper as the number one between the posts, while Mandas has been the designated cup goalkeeper. Therefore, he only made one appearance in Serie A this season, replacing Provedel in Venice when the latter was dropped following his shaky display against Napoli.
But while the Greek remains an understudy for now, the management has already anointed him as the future number one, so Claudio Lotito and Co. were keen to armor him with a new and improved contract. After months of negotiations, Lazio have finally announced the deal through their official website.
SS Lazio announces that it has reached an agreement with Christos Mandas for the extension of his employment contract until 06/30/2029.
The official note naturally didn’t unveil any details regarding the figures, but recent reports in the Italian media had expected the Biancocelesti to raise the goalkeeper’s yearly salary from €200,000 to circa €800,000 with a loyalty bonus that would lift the sum up to €1 million.
