Lazio have announced the signing of Atalanta attacking midfielder Daniel Maldini, who has now become the club’s fourth January signing.
The Biancocelesti already recruited Serbian striker Petar Ratkov and Dutch midfielder Kenneth Taylor earlier this month, replacing Taty Castellanos and Matteo Guendouzi. On Tuesday morning, Christos Mandas completed his transfer to Bournemouth, while young Italian shot-stopper Edoardo Motta arrived to fill the gap caused by the Greek’s departure.
Later on Tuesday, Lazio confirmed that Maldini has also joined Maurizio Sarri’s ranks through a statement published on the club’s official website. The 24-year-old has signed for the Italian capital side on loan until the end of the season, but the deal also includes an option to buy, plus an obligation hinging on the achievement of certain sporting objectives.
SS Lazio announces that it has temporarily acquired, with an option and obligation, the contract rights Daniel Maldini, who has arrived from Atalanta Bergamasca Calcio. The 24-year-old striker has put pen to paper on a temporary contract with SS Lazio, with an option and an obligation, after agreeing personal terms and successfully passing a medical.
Maldini is a third-generation player, who started his career at AC Milan’s academy, just like his legendary father, Paolo. He then had loan spells at Spezia and Empoli, before joining Monza in January 2024.
After a promising spell at the U-Power Stadium that earned him his senior Italy debut, the versatile attacker was poached by Atalanta in January 2025, but between the recurring managerial changes and the stern competition for places, he was lost in the shuffle. Maldini is expected to act as Mattia Zaccagni’s understudy at Lazio, playing as a left winger in Sarri’s 4-3-3 formation.
