Olympique de Marseille centre-back and newly-appointed club captain Leonardo Balerdi (25) has signed a two-year contract extension, the Ligue 1 club has announced. The former Borussia Dortmund player is now tied to Marseille with a new contract set to expire in 2028. Balerdi established himself as an invaluable player for Les Phocéens in the last months, delivering consistent performances at the back.
Securing the services of Balerdi for a further two seasons was labeled as a priority by the Marseille executives and also by head coach Roberto De Zerbi. The Italian manager has confirmed that the Argentina international will wear the skipper’s armband for the start of the new 2024-2025 Ligue 1 McDonald’s campaign. Marseille will kick off their season with a mouth-watering game away at Stade Brestois 29 this Saturday.
