Werder Bremen have today announced the contract extension of Leonardo Bittencourt (28). The former Borussia Dortmund midfielder initially joined on loan from Hoffenheim in 2019 before signing on a permanent basis for a reported €7m the following year.
“My family and I have felt right at home from the first moment we came to Bremen and Werder. We had to endure some tough times with the relegation, but it’s in moments like that where you really sense how a club and its fans tick,” said Bittencourt.
“The same applies to the incredible joy we had after the promotion, it’s really special here in Bremen. Everything is great on the pitch right now and my family is really happy here. That was one of the biggest reasons for staying, the financial aspects were certainly not as important. I’m really excited for my future here with Werder.”
Head of scouting and professional football, Clemens Fritz, added: “We’re delighted that Leo has signed a contract extension. He is a real leader in our squad, has loads of experience and has been through a lot here at the club. His experience really helps our young squad. He took on an important role following our relegation, both on and off the pitch.”
