Lyon have tonight announced the arrival of Croatian centre-back Duje Ćaleta-Car on an initial loan deal from Southampton, with the agreement including an option to make the move permanent at the end of the season.
Specifically, the recently-relegated Championship outfit will receive €1.54m for this season’s loan deal, which will be increased by €5.69m when option to buy is triggered. The Saint will also see 15% of any profit made on a future sale of the Croatian international.
L’Équipe indicate that the former Marseille man’s arrival has been structured in a way that will allow Les Gones to bypass the restrictions that the DNCG – French football’s financial watchdog – has imposed on them this summer transfer window.
The 26-year-old has agreed on a four-year deal with the club, and the permanent option is effectively an obligation. The loan fee will be used by Southampton to pay Ćaleta-Car’s wages for the upcoming campaign.
