Official | Lyon sign England youth international Alejandro Gomes Rodriguez from Southampton

Southampton’s striker Alejandro Gomes Rodriguez (16) has officially put pen to paper over a three-year deal with Olympique Lyonnais.

Gomes Rodriguez has shined through Southampton’s academy ranks in the past few years before making a name for himself on the international stage with the young Three Lions. In the U16 category, the striker logged four goals and two assists in eight appearances, enough to gather interest from Manchester City and Chelsea, according to L’Equipe.

With his contract expiring this summer at Southampton, Gomes Rodriguez had a lot of suitors queuing up but decided to trust Lyon’s project. Born in Venezuela with Portuguese origins, the 16-year-old centre forward will not fill one of Lyon’s non-EU spots.
