Mamelodi Sundowns winger Thapelo Maseko has joined Cypriot club AEL Limassol on a loan deal for the remainder of the 2025/26 campaign.
The 22-year-old signed for Masandawana in July 2023, making an instant impact that saw him earn a call-up to the Bafana Bafana squad for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.
However, he suffered an injury in that continental showpiece, and since then, he has struggled to reclaim his spot in the star-studded team.
Maseko made a total of seven appearances across all competitions this season, with no goal contribution - and is now set for a new chapter in Cyprus.
“The Limassol Athletic Association announces the signing of Thapelo Maseko on loan from the South African champions Mamelodi Sundowns FC until the end of the current football season,” read the club statement.
"Thapelo Maseko is 22 years old and plays in all positions in the attacking midfield. His professional career began with SuperSport, with whom he made 34 appearances.
"In 2023, he transferred to the champions Mamelodi Sundowns FC, making 45 appearances to date in domestic and international competitions such as the African Football League & Cup and the CAF Champions League.
"In addition, he is an international with the South African national team, having made 7 appearances so far. We welcome the footballer to the big AEL family and wish him every success with the blue and yellow jersey.
Notably, Maseko will share a dressing room with compatriot Luther Singh, while another South African in Mihlali Mayambela turns out for rivals Aris Limassol.
