Bundesliga side Werder Bremen have this afternoon confirmed the arrival of German forward Maximilian Philipp on loan from Wolfsburg for the remainder of the season.
“Werder is a great club. I am looking forward to the task and the chance to be able to play for Werder,” said Philipp. “I want to help the team and get more playing time again. I know that there is a lot of competition for places, but I am up for the challenge and want to play my part in Werder continuing to play such successful football.”
During his time in the Bundesliga, Philipp has played a combined 137 league games during his time at Freiburg, Borussia Dortmund and Wolfsburg, scoring 27 goals – he also spent time at Dinamo Moscow between 2019 and 2021, scoring nine goals in 29 appearances.
This also comes after Werder Bremen allowed Oliver Burke to leave the club on loan, and thus needing attacking reinforcements for Niclas Füllkrug and Marvin Ducksch.
Ole Werner’s Werder Bremen lost their opening two games of 2023 but recorded an impressive 2-1 win against Wolfsburg at the weekend, moving the club to just eight points behind sixth placed Eintracht Frankfurt.
Philipp may make his debut against Stuttgart on Sunday before facing one of his former clubs, Borussia Dortmund on February 11.
