Monaco have this morning announced the signing of Swiss U21 international goalkeeper Phlilpp Köhn from RB Salzburg, with the 25-year-old putting pen to paper on a five-year deal.
Reports had emerged last week that the Ligue 1 side had made the German their priority to replace Alexander Nübel, whose two-year loan deal from Bayern Munich was not extended. The Germany-born Köhn is expected to be his direct replacement as the Monaco number one.
Köhn had been the Austrian champions’ starting goalkeeper for the last two seasons, and first came through the youth ranks at Stuttgart before moving across the border.
Reportedly, the club’s new Sporting Director Thiago Scuro won him over. Like his predecessor Paul Mitchell, the Brazilian had been working within the Red Bull network before his arrival. L’Équipe have previously indicated that Monaco had beaten several Bundesliga sides to the shot-stopper’s signing, and that his medical was completed on Friday.
