AS Monaco have signed Metz midfielder Lamine Camara (20), both clubs have announced. The Senegalese international has put pen to paper over a five-year contract with Les Monégasques. The Principality side’s outlay for the Génération Foot youth product reportedly rises to €13.5m. Lamine Camara came to prominence in Ligue 1 by scoring a whopping goal from the halfway line against his eventual future club. Alongside Georges Mikautadze (23), Camara was a player Metz could not hope to retain for the next Ligue 2 season following their relegation.
Promoted Premier League side Southampton were reportedly interested in signing Camara, but the Saints’ opening €10m bid was rejected by Metz. Monaco eventually secured the services of the Senegalese international. Camara will wear the #15 jersey with the Champions League-playing Principality side. Adi Hütter’s side was in the market for a midfielder following the departure of Mohamed Camara (24) to Al Sadd and the expected exit of France international Youssouf Fofana (25).
