Nantes have signed Lens left-back Deiver Machado (32), both clubs have announced. The Colombian left-back has joined Les Canaris as a joker signing. A “joker” allows French clubs to sign one player outside of the window on the condition that they are either a free agent or play for another French club. Nantes have reportedly reached a 400k agreement with Lens over Machado, who has entered the final months of his contract with the Artois side. Machado has signed a two-and-a-half year contract with Nantes.

Machado was short of playing time with Lens, who have signed Metz left-back Matthieu Udol this summer. On the other end, Nantes was in dire need of an upgrade on their left defensive channel as Wolfsburg loanee Nicolas Cozza doesn’t meet Luis Castro’s expectations. Furthermore, Machado needed regular playing time to bolster his chances of making Colombia’s squad for the World Cup. He will wear the No. 27 jersey for Les Canaris.
