Bayer Leverkusen have announced the signing of Paris Saint-Germain defender Nordi Mukiele on a season-long loan, with an option to buy.
The 26-year-old returns to the Bundesliga following a two-year stay at PSG, where he struggled for playing time last season after starting just nine league games for the Ligue 1 champions.
Upon his return to Germany, Mukiele said: “For me, it’s a great thing to return to Germany, and to the Bundesliga champions at that. Competing in the Champions League with Bayer has a special appeal. I’m just looking forward to giving everything for Bayer both internationally and in domestic competitions.”
Mukiele arrives at the club on the same day that Ivorian defender Odilon Kossounou departed for Europa League champions Atalanta on a season-long loan for a reported €5.5m. The Italian side also have an option to buy the 23-year-old for a further €25m.
According to Kicker, although Bayer Leverkusen will pay a higher salary than Kossounou, the Bundesliga champions’ fee to loan Mukiele is less than what Atalanta paid for the Ivorian.
