Oaktree Capital have now been Inter Milan owners for the better part of a year.

The North American fund took over the Nerazzurri in May of last year. They repossessed the club from former owners Suning after the Chinese company had defaulted on a loan.

Since taking over, Oaktree have shifted the Nerazzurri’s strategy on a number of levels.

That is not to say that the owners have made a radical overhaul behind the scenes. On the contrary, they have kept much of the key personnel, such as Beppe Marotta.

Moreover, last summer there was very little tampering with the Inter squad.

The Nerazzurri largely kept last season’s Serie A title-winning team together.

However, there are clear signs that Oaktree want to focus more on young players. Their aim is to invest in lowering the average age of the squad, and signing players with resale value.

Moreover, there is a more ambitious commercial strategy than ever.

And by all accounts, Oaktree are also in a hurry to move forward on the project of a new stadium to replace the San Siro. That would certainly come as a massive boost to revenues.

In the meantime, Oaktree have also been making cash injections into the Nerazzurri.

The club’s semiannual report confirms that the most recent of these came in December of last year. And it was of around €5 million.

That takes the total cash injection from Oaktree into Inter to €52 million since the North American fund took over.
