As Spain get set to take on Georgia and Bulgaria in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers in the upcoming international break, manager Luis de la Fuente has announced the squad list of players he will be calling up for the matches.
And, only one Real Madrid player features in the squad, with young defender Dean Huijsen holding on to his place in the La Roja roster after having been called up last month as well.
Dani Carvajal, a permanent fixture in De la Fuente’s call-ups, misses out as he has been out injured since last week and will not return until later this month.
However, in a bit of a surprise, in-form left-back Alvaro Carreras has been overlooked by the Spain manager.
Since joining the club in the summer, the 22-year-old has been one of Real Madrid’s most consistent performers and has impressed with his all-round abilities.
As such, he was expected to get a look-in into the Spain squad for this month, but De la Fuente has stuck with his preferred left-back duo of Alejandro Grimaldo and Marc Cucurella.
Meanwhile, other Real Madrid players like Raul Asencio, Dani Ceballos, Fran Garcia, and Gonzalo Garcia are also not part of the squad.
