After his recent stint with Turkish side Fenerbahçe ended, the Portuguese coach didn't remain without a team for long. Portuguese giants Benfica appointed Special One José Mourinho as their new coach until the summer of 2027.

In the official announcement of the Portuguese coach's arrival as the Eagles' new head coach, no additional details were mentioned about the contract. It is clear that all the details have not yet been fully and explicitly revealed to the press.

After a brief and uncharacteristic chapter at Benfica—one that ended abruptly in December 2000 after just ten matches in charge—a young José Mourinho’s career took a turn that few could have predicted. Rather than retreat, he regrouped.

A period of rebuilding followed at União de Leiria, but it was his next move that would change everything: FC Porto. There, the once-overlooked coach began crafting a legacy of tactical brilliance and unshakable confidence.

His success in Portugal didn’t go unnoticed. In the summer of 2004, he left his homeland behind, embarking on a new journey in English football with Chelsea. It was a departure that would last more than two decades—the end of one era, and the spectacular beginning of another.
