Union Berlin have today announced the contract extension of Rani Khedira beyond the summer.
“Union was my first port of call because I feel very comfortable here,” said Khedira. “The coaching and playing teams, as well as the entire club, have ambitious goals and work together as one unit; that’s the best basis for continuing to be successful together. So I’m really looking forward to wearing the Union shirt in the future, and giving my all for the club’s further success.”
Khedira (29) joined the club during the 2021/22 season and has established himself as a key player at Union Berlin. With 85 games across all competitions, Urs Fischer named Khedira as vice-captain at the start of the current season – Khedira scored his first goal for the club on March 19 against Eintracht Frankfurt.
The performances of Khedira, brother of Sami, were also recognised by Hansi Flick. The defensive-midfielder made Flick’s provisional Germany squad for the World Cup, a testament to his performances over the last 18 months.
Speaking in January, Khedira stated he was very comfortable at Union Berlin and would be open to signing a contract extension beyond the summer, something which has now become a reality for the former Augsburg man.
Union haven’t disclosed any details on the contract length.
