Following Florentino Perez being proclaimed as the club president again after the elections, Real Madrid have now officially announced the return of Jose Mourinho as the new first-team manager.

“The Board of Directors of Real Madrid CF, meeting today Thursday, June 11, and chaired by Florentino Pérez, has agreed to appoint Jose Mourinho as first team coach for the next three seasons, until June 30, 2029,” the club statement read.

“Jose Mourinho will join Real Madrid on July 13, the day the preseason begins.”

Return after 13 years

Mourinho returns to Real Madrid 13 years after his first stint with the club which lasted three years between 2010 and 2013.

During that tenure, the ‘Special One’ managed to win three trophies – one each of La Liga, Copa del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup.

After Real Madrid failed to win any major titles over the last couple of seasons, Florentino Perez & co. have turned to the Portuguese tactician to lead the team back to the top.

Benfica, Mourinho’s former team, have already confirmed that the Spanish capital club have paid the €15 million release clause to secure his exit.

Now, the 63-year-old manager has signed a three-year contract with Real Madrid and will begin work from next month, when the pre-season is set to get underway.
