As Spain get set to take on Georgia in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixture later tonight in Tbilisi, manager Luis de la Fuente has announced the list of players called up and their shirt numbers for the game.
And, in a surprising move, Real Madrid defender Dean Huijsen has been left out of the matchday squad by the La Roja head coach.
Indeed, the 20-year-old centre-back, who is the only Real Madrid star in the Spain squad for the ongoing international break, has not been given any shirt number for tonight’s clash, in essence confirming his absence from the match.
This is certainly an intriguing development, considering that Huijsen has been a regular in De la Fuente’s setup in recent fixtures.
But with the Real Madrid starlet absent, the Spain boss will count on Dani Vivian, Aymeric Laporte, and Pau Cubarsi as his options at centre-back.
The reason for Huijsen’s exclusion is currently unclear. Along with him, De la Fuente has also excluded Jorge De Frutos and Samu Omorodion from the squad to face Georgia.
