Real Madrid have officially confirmed their starting lineup to face Rayo Vallecano.

Following their disappointing defeat to Liverpool in the Champions League, Xabi Alonso has opted for a few unexpected changes as his side aims to bounce back and maintain their grip on the La Liga title race.

Despite the mounting speculation about tension within parts of the dressing room, Alonso has made it clear through his selection that he remains focused purely on performance.

The biggest talking point is undoubtedly the inclusion of Raul Asencio, who gets a rare start at centre-back, partnering Dean Huijsen in the heart of defence.

The academy product’s promotion to the first team for such a crucial fixture shows Alonso’s growing faith in Madrid’s emerging talents.

What has truly caught everyone off guard, however, is the continued absence of Trent Alexander-Arnold from the starting eleven.

Many expected the English full-back to return to the lineup after making a brief substitute appearance against his former club at Anfield. Instead, Federico Valverde retains his role at right-back.

In midfield, the trio of Eduardo Camavinga, Jude Bellingham, and Arda Guler remains unchanged, forming a dynamic unit capable of both creativity and control.

Up front, Brahim Diaz has been rewarded for his persistence and training ground form with a start alongside Kylian Mbappé and Vinicius Jr..

This combination hints at a more fluid attacking setup, with Brahim expected to operate between the lines while Mbappe and Vinicius stretch Rayo’s defence.
