With Real Madrid set to compete for their second trophy of the season next week in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup Final, they have finally learned their opponents for the main event in Qatar and it Mexican side CF Pachuca.
As the winners of the UEFA Champions League of last season, Real Madrid secured a direct spot in the finals of the FIFA Intercontinental Cup while their opponents had to go through multiple rounds.
The first round saw the representatives of the OFC (Oceanic Football Confederation) and the AFC (Asian Football Confederation), Auckland City and Al-Ain, collide, with the latter emerging victorious.
Two matches took place in the second round – the first one pitting the winners of the first round i.e., Al-Ain against the CAF (Confederation of African Football) representative who received a bye, Al Ahly, who won 3-0.
The second match saw representatives from CONMEBOL (South America) and CONCACAF (North America) lock horns as Botafogo faced Pachuca, who emerged triumphant.
Earlier today, Pachuca squared off against Al Ahly for a spot in the finals against Real Madrid and came out on top via penalties after the game ended in a goalless draw.
Now, the Mexican giants will take on Real Madrid at the Lusail Stadium in Qatar next Wednesday to be crowned the inaugural winners of the FIFA Intercontinental Cup.
Real Madrid’s squad list of players who will be travelling to Qatar for the game has already been released, with the club even taking injured players Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao for the competition.
