Régis Le Bris has extended his contract with Sunderland until 2028, the club confirmed on Monday. The French manager only arrived at the Stadium of Light in the summer of 2024 but has quickly become a central figure in the club’s project under Kyril Louis-Dreyfus.The French manager only arrived in the North East last summer, having left Lorient following two seasons in charge. Twelve months on, he has transformed his reputation. Le Bris (49) guided the Black Cats back to the Premier League at the first time of asking, ending a six-year absence from the top flight. His reward: a long-term deal that consolidates his position at the heart of Sunderland’s project under Kyril Louis-Dreyfus.The club’s young owner had made Le Bris’ renewal a priority this summer, amid interest from elsewhere in the Premier League. The Black Cats’ window has already seen the signings of Granit Xhaka, Habib Diarra, Noah Sadiki and Montassar Talbi. Beyond securing survival in 2025/26, Le Bris’ task will be to lay the foundations for long-term stability in the Premier League. “Like every Sunderland supporter, I’m delighted we are announcing this contract extension for Régis,” said Sunderland sporting director Kristjaan Speakman to the club’s wbsite. “It provides clarity going into the Premier League season, but more importantly it recognises his contribution and continued commitment to the Club. Régis has an unrelenting desire for progression that matches our own and we look forward to continuing our partnership throughout the upcoming season, as we move forward with aligned objectives that reflect our shared ambition.”GFFN | George Boxall
