Stade de Reims have announced the contract extension of Belgian right-back Thomas Foket (28). Foket’s contract was due to expire this June and he put pen to paper over a two-year extension, keeping him with the Will Still-led side until 2025. He has only played nine Ligue 1 games this season because of a severe hamstring injury he sustained this summer. He has been a stalwart under the Anglo-Belgian head coach and, like him, is unbeaten in this Ligue 1 season.
Foket, a 10-times capped Belgium international, arrived to Reims from Gent in 2018 and quietly made his mark as one of Ligue 1’s most underrated full-backs. Then Red Devils manager Roberto Martinez gave him his first international call-up in 2016 where he featured for the 2018 World Cup qualifying rounds. Foket has played 146 times for Reims, scored one goal and registered six assists. An energetic and technically-gifted right-back, the Belgian international is expected to feature against Nice this Saturday for Ligue 1 gameweek 24.
