Liverpool will once again face PSG in the Champions League this season, this time in the quarter-finals.

The reigning European champions knocked the Reds out of the competition in the round of 16 last season, after a very hard-fought two-legged tie.

Despite struggling in the Premier League this campaign, Arne Slot’s side have very real aspirations of going on to be crowned champions of Europe, but the Reds have just received a massive blow in their chase for a seventh European Cup.

Much has been made about PSG’s request to have their Ligue 1 game against title challengers Lens postponed in an attempt to better prepare them for their tie against Liverpool, and now a decision has been made.

PSG to have league game postponed

The Ligue de Football (LFP) have made the decision to postpone PSG’s league game due to be played on April 11, in line with the Board of Directors' "strong strategic line to allow France to maintain its fifth place in the UEFA index", according to a new press release.

This means that PSG will not have a match to play between their two games against Liverpool, giving them an upper hand over the Reds.

Slot’s side face a difficult run, with an FA Cup clash at Manchester City a few days before the opening game of the Champions League quarter-final and a league game against Fulham in between the two PSG matches.

The suspension of PSG’s game is made even more controversial by the fact that Lens, who trail the Parisian club by one point in the league, publicly opposed the request.

The Champions League quarter-final is set to once again be a close-fought tie between two of Europe’s best clubs, but PSG having a full week of rest between legs will come as a massive boost.

Liverpool will likely not let this disadvantage knock them though, and Slot’s side will still be hoping to reach their first Champions League semi-final since 2022 in order to salvage what has been an otherwise disappointing season.
