Released from his contract by Olympique de Marseille, Rubén Blanco (30) has signed with Girona until the end of the season, the Catalan club have confirmed.

After joining Marseille in the summer of 2022, the Spanish goalkeeper never managed to establish himself in the team. Relegated to a backup role, Blanco played only 12 matches for OM. He kept four clean sheets and conceded nine goals during that time.

In search of a new first-choice goalkeeper this winter, Girona, currently 12th in La Liga, managed to secure the services of Marc-André ter Stegen (33), who arrived on loan from FC Barcelona. A quality and experienced reinforcement, but one whose impact will ultimately be limited, as he will be sidelined for several months after undergoing surgery for a hamstring tear.

Blanco, familiar with Spanish football having played nearly 150 times for Celta Vigo, has been selected to replace him.
