Sebastiaan Bornauw’s reported on transfer to Leeds United has been made official. The 26-year-old departs the Bundesliga after six seasons spent playing for FC Köln and VfL Wolfsburg. Kicker currently confirms earlier reports that Germany’s green company team have received €6m for their central defender.
Bornauw heads to Yorkshire along with former Wolfsburg teammate Lukas Nmecha, whom Leeds snapped up on a free just over two weeks ago. There are currently whispers that a third Bundesliga player is set to join former Borussia Mönchengladbach head coach Daniel Farke in the Premier League.
The Yorkshire Evening Post claims that Leeds presently also target Hoffenheim defensive midfielder/centre-back Anton Stach. The twice-capped German international currently maintains an estimated market value of €14m.
Stach actually once featured in the Wolfsburg academy before moving to SpVgg Greuther Fürth ahead of the 2020/21 2. Bundesliga campaign. Mainz 05 purchased Stach for €4.5m ahead of the 2021/22 season after Stach helped Fürth earn promotion.
Hoffenheim would then pay €11m to acquire Stach from the Rheinhessen two years later. Stach’s senior German international career has stalled somewhat since moving to Sinsheim (he was last capped in 2022), but plenty of Bundesliga sides remain interested in the 26-year-old.
In point of fact, Stach’s aggressive tackling style and highly physical manner of play would likely render him a very good fit for the English top division. YEP nevertheless references other interested parties and suggests picking up Stach will be difficult.
