FC Metz currently sit bottom of Ligue 1 and they have now opted to make a managerial change. Stéphane Le Mignan, who got the club promoted back to the top-flight, departs, making way for Benoit Tavenot.
In 18 Ligue 1 games this season, Metz have lost on 12 occasions and they subsequently sit rock bottom. The defeat to RC Strasbourg Alsace in the Derby de l’Ést proved to be the straw that broke the camel’s back. Le Mignan’s contract with Les Grenats ran until the end of the current campaign.
He has been replaced by Tavenot, who has been out of work since his departure from SC Bastia at the end of October. He has already had time at Metz, having been an assistant to Frédéric Antonetti for three years between 2019 and 2022.
Tavenot will take charge, at least until the end of the season, and is tasked with keeping Les Grenats in the top-flight. They are just three points away from safety and will host Olympique Lyonnais on Sunday.
