Steve Mounié (29) has officially left Stade Brestois, joining Bundesliga club Augsburg upon the expiry of his contract with the Ligue 1 side.
Brest, who next season will embark on a European adventure in the UEFA Champions League, had been hoping to retain Mounié, whose contract was expiring. Despite offering an extension to the Beninese forward, an agreement was never found. It is thought that the sticking point may have been the length of the contract. The striker, such an important part of Eric Roy’s team last season, leaves the club after four seasons, during which he scored 33 goals in 135 matches.
Mounié therefore joins Augsburg upon the expiry of his deal with Les Ty Zéfs. He has signed a three-year deal with the Bundesliga side, who last season finished 11th in the German top flight. With Brest also unlikely to be able to retain Martin Satriano, who spent last season on loan from Inter Milan, Grégory Lorenzi has a task on his hands trying to rebuild the attack.
