Borussia Dortmund have announced that today Sven Mislintat has been sacked by the club and left with immediate effect.
Mislintat was technical director and squad planner for Dortmund having returned to the club in May of last year having previously left the club back in 2017.
The reason for his departure this time, although not given, is similar to his reason for departing the first time. It was widely reported that Mislintat and sporting director Sebastian Kehl did not get along and this was heavily impacting the day-to-day workings at Dortmund, with it even going as far as suggesting that Mislintat wanted Kehl’s job as sporting director.
The pair would regularly disagree on transfers and what direction the club should be heading in. It also did not help that it split the Dortmund hierarchy with previous head coach Edin Terzic and advisor Matthias Sammer favouring Mislintant while Nuri Şahin was an ally of Sebastian Kehl.
After crashing and burning at Ajax and now at Dortmund (again), it is hard to understand why any ambitious club will hire Mislintat in the future.
