As suspected, Real Madrid have officially confirmed that new signing Trent Alexander-Arnold has sustained a hamstring injury during the game against Olympique de Marseille.

“Following tests carried out today on our player Trent Alexander-Arnold by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a muscle injury in the hamstring of his left leg. Evolution pending,” the statement read.

Trent started the match against Marseille at the Santiago Bernabeu, making his Champions League debut for Los Blancos.

However, just two minutes into the game and after having barely touched the ball, the 26-year-old felt a sharp pain in his left thing and immediately sought medical attention.

After being looked at by the medical staff, Trent was taken off, with Dani Carvajal replacing him on the field.

Tests have now confirmed that the England international has indeed suffered a hamstring injury.

Out for at least six weeks

While the club statement did not indicate the length of his absence, journalist Arancha Rodriguez now reports that Trent will be sidelined for a period of six to eight weeks.

This comes as a bitter blow for Real Madrid considering that the Englishman will now miss some important matches, including the derby against Atletico Madrid later this month.

An absence of six weeks would mean that Trent will also be touch-and-go for the first El Clasico of the season against Barcelona on the weekend of 26 October.

It also means that Trent is likely to miss out on a return to Anfield, where Real Madrid are scheduled to face Liverpool in the Champions League.

If the timeline is maintained, he will likely make his comeback in early November. His absence will be a big concern for Real Madrid, more so considering that Carvajal could miss as many as three Champions League games due to suspension after his red card vs Marseille.
